It all started at the 2016 Great Peconic Race

I was paddling in a 19 mile race in Long Island call the Great Peconic Race. The race course was a circumnavigation of Shelter Island. Like most races, paddlers were required to wear a leash. I happened not to have a leash with me so I had to make one with a cargo strap I grabbed from my truck. I attached one end of the cargo strap to the leash plug and the other to my waist hydration pack. Once on the water I realized that the strap was not as long as I would like. A few hundred yards into the 19 mile race I quickly realized the benefits of the shorter of the leash attached to the waist. This was the start of the SUP Harness.
